The Launch of Hungry Jerks

As I alluded to in my last post, The Jerks have been taking a little time off from this site to spend time doing what they do best- shit like pigging out at restaurants, watching/making movies, and playing video games.

The Jerks eat out a combined 3-4 thousand times per year. So it is only fitting that we pull a fucking John Chow and make some blog posts and pictures of the shitty food we eat.

The Bunch of Jerks site has always been unfocused mayhem. It's just about whatever we feel like writing about. Ostensibly an "entertainment" blog, there is no real targeted content or theme. Just a Bunch of Jerks talking about anything.

We've always known there would be specific topics we might want to write about, but they might not fit into BOJ so neatly. I mean, a random review here and there works, but if we want to really focus on something, we probably need another blog/sites.

So we have decided to launch a restaurant reviews blog. Since all these reviews are going to be handled by the same Bunch of Jerks you've grown to love over the years from reading BOJ and the wildly popular ( I hear it's still Big in Japan) Devon Lohan blog, we are going to keep the whole "Jerks" theme..but apply it to food. You know, fat guys eating and talking about it, and taking pictures.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the launch of:

Hungry Jerks

p.s. We already have a great review of the Cheesecake Factory. Check it out.

Food Review: Joeys Of Chicago

Been wanting to review this place to start with, but haven't had a chance to get to it. Joeys Of Chicago is my favorite place to go eat. When I'm not wanting pizza. To me they have the best burgers and sandwiches in AZ. Well, out of all the burger places I've eaten so far it is. They have the best french fries as well. So, what is there goin on at Joeys?
Hot Dogs, of course. Big ones, little ones, chili ones, very good ones. I'm not a big hot dog person, but I gave them a try and even for a non hot dog fan, they're great.

Burgers, man oh man. I usually get the cheeseburger with bacon added to it and then BBQ sauce. But lately I think I may step it up next time I go and ask them to put some of their amazing home made chili on my burger. Maybe I can get my own menu item named after me.

But, what is their signature sandwich? The item that sets them apart from the rest? That would be their Italian Beef Sandwich. It is simply, amazing. Now you can get the sandwich numerous ways, with just the bread and the beef, you can dip it in their gravy, you can order it pre dipped, or you can order it soaking wet, with the entire sandwich dipped into the gravy. That alone is great, but, you can take it one step further, and get it JOEYS WAY. Yeah, Joeys Way takes their amazing sandwich, and adds heaps of liquid cheese on top of it with assorted peppers. I am a jalapeno lover, so this makes me happy. The sandwich Joeys Way is not for the weak tongued. The peppers they put on it pack some serious spice to it. And I love it. As you can see below, be sure to get some wet naps ready. It gets a lil messy.
Joeys is my favorite place to eat. But it saddens me that every time I go there it is almost empty. This place has serious potential to get some traffic flowing to it. I would like to see them add some food challenges to their menu. Maybe adding a Joeys Way Ghost Pepper challenge. Add a little ghost pepper to one of their beef sandwiches, finish it, and get your picture taken and name on their giant wall. Something along those lines. I love places to do the gimmick foods. But even without it, I will still be a visitor to Joeys very often.

The only real negative thing I have to say about Joeys is this...... and it REALLY makes my little heart sad.......no matter what, I will never, ever be able to escape the haunting of the 1993 NBA Finals. Joeys has news paper clippings all over from the Bulls and ugh, it hurts being a Suns fan sometimes. But that's ok. I still love Joeys Of Chicago.

NOTE: Joeys website lists one location, but they have another location up off of the I-17 and Happy Valley which is the one we go to. It is just west of 19th ave.

Food Review: Logans Roadhouse

Let me put it this way...

When we were leaving the parking lot, I felt like some giant bearded dude just came up and punched in the face with flavor and awesome service and then just stared at me for a minute.

Logans Roadhouse is similar to many "roadhouse" style places, you know the ones where they give you a bucket of peanuts and you can throw the shells on the ground. This place isn't messing around. If you are a mans man, then you should be eating here.

Honestly, and not stretching any of the truth, within 10 minutes of sitting at our table, not only did we have our sodas, but we already had the dinner rolls, and appetizer that was ordered! They were no there to lolly gag around things, they know you go there to eat, so they feed you. The rolls there are probably the best free bread that you can get. Homemade yeast rolls with butter on them rock your world. As for the food, always good, but I may have found their hidden gem. Porkies. Chipotle BBQ Pork with cole slaw and a pickle on those rolls I just mentioned.

This place is no joke. They do not waste time with some waiter who just wants to crack jokes and be annoying. The waiter we had, knew I was hungry, he saw it in my eyes. First thing he did was get our sodas, then the appetizer came along with salads and the rolls. All within 10 minutes. maybe 5 minutes after that, our dinners were there. That is what I like. Most people don't like their food flying at them, but I'm fat, and was hungry, so get that food moving along. Their steak and shrimp is amazing. A return trip, is a must, and if you have a Logans Roadhouse near you, check it out. Their big special going on is pretty awesome. $13.99 gets you two full meals on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Dillons at Scorpion Bay on Lake Pleasant Review

Yep, that's right kids, we now do food reviews. The wife, baby and I usually dine out maybe once a week or so, and figured if anyone out there is doing the same, you might wanna know what's good, in AZ at least, since that's where I live. Of course if I'm every out of town, I'll do food reviews there too, but anyways, on with the first food review!

Dillons is a little restaurant that is actually down the street from my house. I have never gone, but I drive past it often. Today we were bored and wanted a day out of the house and decided we would go to the lake and spend the day. We got there and were surprised to see that Dillons now has a location, literally ON the lake. It's the only place anywhere close to the lake to get food so it's pretty convenient for the local fisherman needing a bite to eat. So we took the long journey down the stairs and across the walkway over to Dillons, here is an image of Dillons out on the lake I got from their website....The first building you get to is where Dillons is located. Everything else is just docks for boat rentals and whatever else. You have the choice to sit inside or out on the deck, we chose the deck. Now they had the usual menu of burgers and other sandwiches, steaks and ribs, salads and soups, the usual stuff, sports bar style food. The wife is a burger fanatic, everywhere we go, if they have a burger, she gets it. So she of course ordered, The Burger. I myself went for the Pulled Pork Sandwich with Cajun BBQ sauce. Since like my wife is with burgers, I am with BBQ sauce. I LOVE BBQ. The service was quick and nice, the scenery is great.

The Burger. The wife said it was ok. Didn't knock her socks off, but she liked it. It was just a typical burger.

The Pulled Pork Sandwich was pretty good, but what really set it apart from others was the BBQ sauce. They had choices of Mild, Sweet, or Cajun. I went with the Cajun and I gotta say, it is one of the best BBQ Sauces I have ever had. With the word Cajun thrown in there you fear it might be really spicy and you're fighting back the burning tongue all during your meal but it wasn't bad at all. It was perfect and very good.

Its a safe bet that we will make a return visit to Dillons. On top of having good food they are very reasonably priced as well. For the two meals and three drinks the whole thing came to just 25 bucks. So I was pleased. Click here to check out pictures from the website and find more info.

Here is a pic I took from our table with my iPhone.
